Tottenham Hotspur leaders look set to decide on Antonio Conte's sacking in the coming days. The coach criticized his players quite harshly after the 3-3 draw against Southampton in the championship, where the Londoners were ahead 3-1 at one point of the meeting, but could not manage the result. Conte has already flown to Italy and it is not known if he will return to London as Tottenham coach.
Club president Daniel Levy has yet to comment on Conte's harsh criticism of his players. Levy is believed to be consulting with other people on his next move, but in all likelihood, Conte will not be offered a second chance. Ryan Mason is expected to be the new interim coach until the end of the season.
Another option that the leaders of Tottenham can consider is to use the break of national matches, to appoint a new coach, right now. Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino are the three most talked-about names, but convincing them to lead the bench at Tottenham could prove difficult.
Antonio Conte had a private conversation with president Levy following the allegations against the players, and the Italian is thought to have clarified that the criticism was directed at the players, and not the president or the club's management. We remember that Tottenham currently holds the fourth place in the championship, but Liverpool and Newcastle, who are the closest followers, have 2 more games to play.
That means Tottenham's target of qualifying for the Champions League next season is in jeopardy, making the decision the club has to make about Conte even more difficult. However, an official decision is expected from the Londoners very soon.
