Aston Villa secured their second win of the season in the Premier League as Steven Gerrard's men narrowly won 1-0 against Southampton. The English technician said that his team reacted quite well to the criticism they have received in recent weeks, despite the victory achieved with great difficulty. Gerrard said at the end of the meeting:
"It wasn't a very stylish victory, but with the position we were in the championship, we knew we had to play pragmatically. I am very proud of the effort, the application on the field, and the will of the boys. We played better than last time. In football you have to push yourself, fight and have will, and we played hard today. We will improve in terms of style of play and possession, it will come, but today the 3 points were important."
The former Liverpool player added:
"We had to prove that our performance against Manchester City was not a fluke, and there were a lot of people watching us on TV, but we did it."
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Fulham managed to grab a spectacular victory against Nottingham Forest, in numbers 3-2. It was the hosts who took the lead in the 11th minute of the meeting with Awoniyi. The first half of the challenge ended with the advantage of Forest, but the second would book a spectacular performance from the Fuham players.
In the 54th minute, it was Tosin Adarabioyo who with a headed goal set the balance on the field. Just 3 minutes later, Joao Palhinha scored Fulham's second goal with a spectacular strike as Nottingham Forest were clearly hit by the visitors' first goal. In the 60th minute, Harrison Reed scored the third for Marco Silva's men. Despite O'Brien scoring Forest's second goal in the 77th minute, Fulham managed to hold on as they walked away from the City Ground with 3 points.
