According to the latest reports from BBC Sport, Chelsea have accepted the amount requested by Manchester City for the card of Raheem Sterling. The London Blues are expected to pay the "citizens" 50 million pounds for the services of the English attacker. The latter will sign a 5-year contract with Chelsea, with the option to renew and 1 extra year. The player will undergo medical examinations before the deal is made official to the media.
Sterling had 1 year left on his contract with City and the club's management decided to take advantage of the income from his card, avoiding a zero-cost departure next year. The forward joined Pep Guardiola's side in 2015 from Liverpool. Since that moment, Sterling has excelled, scoring 131 goals in 339 appearances with the "citizens".
This will be the first major approach for Chelsea since the acquisition of ownership of the club by American billionaire Todd Boehly. English media reports that everything will be formalized very soon, to give Sterling time to join his new club on the pre-season tour in America.
A new adventure at Chelsea seems the best option for Sterling, who is aware of the difficulties of starting at Manchester City. Last season, the striker scored 13 goals in 30 Premier League appearances, but despite this, his opportunities were greatly reduced by the arrival of Jack Grealish in the team. In the 2 semi-finals of the Champions League against Real Madrid, Sterling was also left on the bench by coach Guardiola. The situation at City did not seem to improve for the Englishman, as this year the "citizens" brought 2 new attackers to the team, Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, with the latter not discussing the place of the starter.
