After numerous reports and news in recent weeks, Manchester City has finally formalized the approach of Erling Haaland to the team. The 21-year-old has signed a 5-year contract, until 2027 with the club. Haaland managed to score a full 86 goals in 89 meetings with Borussia Dortmund, becoming one of the most sought after strikers in the European arena.
Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain stated about Haaland transfer:
"Haaland is a great talent and has been one of the best strikers in Europe in recent seasons. His record as a goal scorer is extraordinary, while his performances with Dortmund, especially in the Champions League show that he can triumph even at the highest levels. "Erling has everything we ask of a striker and we are confident he will excel in this team and in this system."
The signing with Erling Haaland puts an end to City's search for a typical striker, since the departure of Sergio Aguerro to Barcelona. Prior to joining City, the striker was also targeted by Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Norwegian has scored a total of 92 goals in the league for Molde, Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. Last year Haaland set the record for the youngest player to score over 20 goals in the Champions League.
In parallel, the player has scored 20 goals in 21 appearances with the Norwegian national team. This means that Haaland only needs 14 goals to be crowned as the best goal scorer of all time for the Norwegian national team.
The footballer himself expressed quite proud of his new adventure, saying that he has followed Manchester City since he was little. According to Haaland, City's game module fits him quite well, as Pep Guardiola's team creates many chances for goal during a meeting.
