Manchester City has reached an agreement with Anderlecht for the transfer of the Spanish defender, Sergio Gomez. The player is part of the U21 Spanish national team and has attracted a lot of attention recently with his performances at the club and national level.
City have been constantly on the move to strengthen the left side of the defense during this transfer window. Pep Guardiola had set Brighton defender Marc Cucurella as his main target. But, the latter decided to join Chelsea for the figure of 62.5 million pounds, which forced the "citizens" to look for other options.
And apparently Guardiola has decided not to spend extraordinary numbers, investing in a young and very promising talent. However, the competition at City is quite strong, and if Gomez fails to secure his place in the first team, he could be activated on loan at Girona in Spain. The latter belong to the same group that owns Manchester City.
Sergio Gomez is a product of Barcelona's academy, but the player did not play a single season with the first team. He joined Borussia Dortmund, but did not find the right spaces at the German club, and therefore played on loan at Huesca for 2 years. Gomez then moved to Anderlecht in Belgium.
The most important approach of this market for City was undoubtedly Erling Haaland, who started the season in the best way in the Premier League. The Norwegian was the author of 2 goals in City's clean win over West Ham in the transfer. The attacker said that the match was a very proud moment for him and his family, and promised that the goals will not stop in the following matches.
