The English defender of Manchester United, Harry Maguire, has said that he has an important role to play in the team. The midfielder started as a starter in the challenge against Real Betis in the Europa League, where Manchester United won 1-0, thus qualifying for the next round. Despite the fact that the defender has been activated in just 5 meetings with his club since the World Cup, Maguire remains convinced of the contribution he can make at Old Trafford.
The Englishman said after the victory over Betis:
"I have an important role both on and off the field and every day I try to bring this club closer to success, regardless of whether I play or not. Of course I want to play and start more games, but I'm playing my role off and on the pitch. Being the starter and leading the team is a good feeling and the most important thing for myself and for the group."
Maguire joined United in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £80 million. However, the defender of the English national team has not been the first choice of coach Ten Hag in recent weeks, as the technician has preferred Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the back.
Meanwhile, coach Ten Hag also expressed himself quite happy for the victory over Betis. The Dutch technician commented:
"I think the players played quite well. Once again, the players who came off the bench did a fantastic job. So you can say that we are not just 11 players, but a team. For Facundo Pellistri it was a good enough moment to take the field. He had some good moments. In training he played quite well, but the matches are different... In defense especially he performed quite well and I am very satisfied with his performance."
