It is now official, Mauricio Pochettino will be the new manager of Chelsea, at least until 2026. The Argentinian has signed a 3-year contract with the London Blues and has the difficult task of rebuilding Chelsea, who had one of the worst seasons difficult in its history in the Premier League.
The London club has changed its coach 3 times during the last season, and for the first time since 1996, it finished the championship in the second half of the overall standings. In the latter part of the season, Frank Lampard was placed at the head of the bench as a temporary technician, but the Englishman could not inspire the blues.
Chelsea have spent nearly £600 million in the market since last summer, and that means Pochettino has to field a squad full of talent, as well as let go of some of them. According to the English media, the priority of the club in the next market is a central midfielder. The most mentioned name of the moment is that of Manuel Ugarte, who is active with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. However, Chelsea are expected to have competition to sign the midfielder, who is also being targeted by Liverpool and PSG.
With Chelsea not playing in Europe next season, expectations are high on Pochettino, and the board is looking for a top performance in the Premier League next season. The Argentine coach will land at Stamford Bridge along with his team of assistants.
Frank Lampard Meanwhile, he has also spoken positively about Pochettino, praising his skills as a coach, as well as his potential to create a team with an identity that can win more games.
