According to the latest reports from the English media, Leicester City have rejected another offer from Chelsea, for defender Wesley Fofana. The London Blues are thought to have offered £60-70m for the player, a figure that has been deemed low by Leicester's management. For this reason, the "foxes" have again shown themselves to be stoic in their attitude towards the Frenchman.
For Tuchel to bring the defender to Stamford Bridge, a club-record fee of more than £80million could be needed. Londoners have spent £170m so far this summer. Recently, they also faced the rejection of Everton, for the striker Anthony Gordon's card. At the same time, Chelsea are also interested in Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Meanwhile, as for Fofana, the latter was left out of the Leicester team, in the defeat of the "foxes" against Southampton on Saturday. The team's coach, Brendan Rodgers, stated that Fofana was not in the right mental state to be activated, but did not comment in detail on the future of the center back.
The player joined Leicester City in 2020 from French side St Etienne. His good performances have earned him a place in France's U21 national team, while a few months ago, Fofana signed a new contract with Leicester. According to the new agreement, the defender will play at the King Power Stadium for the next 5 years.
This weekend, Leicester face Chelsea in the Premier League, and it is still unclear whether Fofana will be part of the Foxes' starting XI. If the Frenchman is activated, this would be a clear message to Chelsea, who should look at other options to strengthen the defensive department. After the 11-3 loss to Leeds in the Championship, Tuchel is increasingly aware of the importance of a solid centre-back in his team.
