Tottenham have targeted Julian Nagelsmann as the first alternative, to replace coach Antonio Conte, the moment the Italian leaves the club. Nagelsmann was surprisingly dismissed from Bayern Munich while in London, the Italian Conte has lost the trust of the club leaders and it is thought that he will be dismissed very soon.
Tottenham tried to sign Nagelsmann as early as the summer of 2021, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, but the German technician joined Bayern Munich. However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy remains a huge admirer of Nagelsmann, and according to Football Insider's sources, is working to bring the German to London.
Sources close to Nagelsmann say the German relishes the idea of managing a Premier League club, and that further boosts Tottenham's chances of convincing the former Leipzig boss.
It is believed that if Julian agrees contract terms with Tottenham, he will be put in charge of the team starting next season, rather than at the moment. However, the London club has also thought about other alternatives, in case plan A does not materialize. Among the other candidates for the Spurs bench are former coach Mauricio Pochettino, as well as Luis Enrique.
Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has not yet returned to England, as the technician is in Italy on vacation. Among Tottenham players and staff, it is expected that the Italian will be sacked, but the Spurs have not yet made any move concrete. Assistants Ryan Mason and Cristian Stellini have taken over on an interim basis, but more clarity is expected from chairman Daniel Levy on the club's future, and pressure is mounting. The latter is thought to be using the period of national team matches to make a final decision on Conte and his replacement.
