Following the news of the renewal of Kylian Mbappe with PSG, and for another 3 years, the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas. The latter has long been an opponent of big spending on football and clubs like Manchester City or the French champions. Tebas also opposed the idea of the European Super League, as he recently expressed "anger" with the latest move of PSG.
In a post on social media, Tebas said:
"What PSG is doing by renewing with Mbappe in these figures, having lost 700 million euros in recent seasons and having more than 600 million euros in salary expenses as a club is an insult to football."
According to a report published earlier this month by the Ligue de Football Professionnel in France, PSG lost a full 224.3 million euros last season. Meanwhile in the 2019-2020 season, the French champions lost 124.2 million euros, due to the interruption of the championship by the COVID-19 pandemic. But that does not seem to have stopped PSG from offering Mbappe a previously unheard of contract in terms of financial terms, to keep the footballer in Paris.
Tebas also attacked PSG president Al-Khelaifi, saying he is just as dangerous as the idea of the Super League. La Liga meanwhile also reacted to Mbappe's new contract, repeating many of President Tebas's allegations. According to the highest football authority in Spain, it is scandalous for a club like PSG to accept such a contract, while other clubs that are willing to pay Mbappe the same salary, have no chance of benefiting the player's card . La Liga accused the French club of not respecting the rules of fair play.
