Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has advised his Chelsea colleague Graham Potter on how to better manage the pressure of being a Premier League manager. Potter has won just nine of 9 games for Chelsea since joining the bench at Stamford Bridge in September. Last week, the Englishman said that the pressure of work has affected his mental health, after anonymous online threats directed at him and his family.
Meanwhile, Arteta took the opportunity to give his opinion and advice. The Arsenal technician said:
"We all know the pressure, the demands and the uncertainty that this industry has. You may have difficulties and challenges in your work, which we have when you lose, but also when you win, as this work is very demanding. But you can't ruin your life for him…”
Arteta added:
"Your family, friends and loved ones, the people around you, don't deserve to have their lives affected so negatively because you didn't win a football match. In my case, the balance was critical, but you need a little help, someone to clarify, because sometimes when you're in that position it's not easy to see things clearly."
Chelsea are currently in 10th place in the Premier League, a full 26 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, and 14 points adrift of the last place that ensures qualification for next season's Champions League. Despite numerous acquisitions in the last two markets, it seems that Graham Potter needs time to establish a solid squad and a successful playing style at the London Blues.
Chelsea will face Leeds United in the next challenge in the Championship, a good opportunity to get back to winning ways.
