Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba has undergone knee surgery following an injury sustained in July. The player has not played since and Pogba could miss the World Cup in Qatar for most of December. France's first match at the World Cup will be against Australia on November 22.
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was asked about Pogba's surgery. The Italian technician stated:
"This morning Pogba trained for the second time, but then he stopped, and we decided that he would undergo surgery. If we're talking realistically, he'll be back in January."
Serie A it will stop on November 13, leading up to the World Cup, and then return again in January, when the World Cup is over. Coach Allegri was also asked directly if Pogba will be able to play in Qatar. However, the Italian refused to answer, saying that the World Cup is not his problem.
Pogba rejoined the "Old Lady" this summer for zero cost, after the expiration of his contract with Manchester United. The talented footballer never managed to perform consistently at Old Trafford. However, the same cannot be said about his appearances with the French national team. Pogba's role has always been decisive in the success of the Roosters, the most important of which is undoubtedly the triumph in the 2018 World Cup.
Even if Pogba manages to recover in time for the Qatar World Cup, there will still be plenty of question marks about his fitness. Considering the huge competition in the team led by Didier Deschamps, it is no surprise at all if the player loses his starting place in the national team.
