Paris St-Germain forward Neymar is expected to miss the rest of the season with an injury. The Brazilian superstar is due to undergo surgery on his right ankle, following the serious injury he picked up in PSG's 4-3 win over Lille two weeks ago. The news has been confirmed in an official statement from the club itself.
PSG revealed that Neymar has suffered from occasional injuries to his right ankle over the years, and surgery is needed to prevent a recurrence. The club also confirmed that it will take at least 3-4 months for the Brazilian to return to training.
This is not the first time Neymar has suffered a serious injury, as the forward missed the entire Copa America tournament in 2019 for the same reason. Also, Neymar was not present for Brazil in 2 matches during the World Cup in Qatar, after an injury received in the challenge against Serbia.
The player's absence is bad news for coach Christophe Galtier. PSG will face Bayern Munich on Wednesday, in the valuable challenge for the UEFA Champions League. The Parisians were defeated 1-0 in Paris and now have a difficult task in Germany, where they must overturn the result.
The situation is much better in the championship for the French, as the team leads Ligue 1, with a difference of 8 points from the closest followers. However, the Champions League has been and remains the main objective of the team. The final of the prestigious competition will be played on June 10 this year, and even if PSG manage to go all the way, Neymar will not be ready for the challenge.
Despite the difficult situation with consecutive injuries, the Brazilian has scored 13 goals in the championship this season, as well as assisting his teammates 10 times.
