According to the prestigious "The Athletic", Manchester United has made an official offer for the services of Christian Eriksen. The Danish midfielder could leave the Brentford team at zero cost, as his 1-year contract expires on June 30.
The player signed a short-term contract with Thomas Frank's team, and his impact was immediate. Brentford won 7 of the 11 games in which Eriksen was active, and the latter helped the English club close out the Premier League in 13th place in the standings. Before signing with Brentford, Eriksen started training with the Ajax club in the Netherlands. Brentford are interested in Eriksen renewing his contract, but the midfielder has indicated he is considering several options for the future. He said:
"I would love to play football in the Champions League. I know how beautiful the feeling is, but it is not necessary for me. "
Manchester United meanwhile did not manage to go more than sixth place in the standings last season. This means that the "Red Devils" can not fulfill Eriksen's desire to play in the Champions League, at least next season. However, United can offer the Dane a way back to the prestigious competition, triumphing in Europa League.
Despite the interest in Eriksen, United's main midfield priority remains Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong. But the operation to transfer him to Old Trafford could prove complicated. The Spaniards are in financial trouble, but that does not mean they will easily give up one of their most valuable assets. Given this United should have some alternatives on the table, and Eriksen is definitely a strong candidate.
