Chelsea executives have contacted Jose Mourinho to discuss a possible deal for the Chelsea manager's role. Following the sacking of Graham Potter, the Blues have appointed Frank Lampard as their new interim manager until the end of the season. However, president Todd Boehly is looking for a long-term coach, who is expected to take over starting next season.
Jose Mourinho is one of the alternatives on Chelsea's list, as according to the English media, the Roma coach has had a call with representatives from Stamford Bridge. If the Portuguese is appointed coach of the club again, it would be his third adventure with the blues.
Initially, Mourinho was appointed Chelsea coach in 2004, after surprising Europe by winning the Champions League with the Porto team. The technician had a very successful period in England as well, as he managed to win 2 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups and 2 League Cup trophies. However, the Portuguese left Stamford Bridge in 2007 after some disagreements with former club president Roman Abramovich.
After a stint with Real Madrid, Mourinho returned to London in 2014, and guided Chelsea to Premier League success. However, his second adventure with the London Blues was cut short in 2015, following a negative run of 9 defeats in 15 league matches.
It remains to be seen whether the Portuguese coach will be given another chance to lead Chelsea to success. The club is going through a very difficult moment in the championship, as it is in 11th place, far from the European objectives for the next season. The interim coach, Frank Lampard, said that he will do the best possible for the team until the end of the season.
