Bayern Munich will in all likelihood not sign Joao Cancelo at the end of the season. The Portuguese defender is currently on loan to the German giants from Manchester City. The loan contract foresees the possibility of buying the card by Bayern at the end of the season, but it seems that the Bavarians will not activate this clause.
Cancelo started his adventure at Bayern quite well, with 2 assists in the first 2 meetings, but then the situation changed, and not in the defender's favor. The player has been left on the bench in the last matches, including the challenge against PSG in the Champions League. Cancelo was activated only in the last minutes of the match as a substitute.
According to the prestigious Calciomercato, the coach of Bayern, Julian Nagelsmann, is not entirely happy with the way Cancelo has implemented his instructions on the pitch, and this is thought to be the main reason why the defender has not been activated as a starter.
Based on recent reports, if Joao does not sign with Bayern in the summer, the 2 main options for his future are Real Madrid and Chelsea. A return to City is unlikely to happen as coach Guardiola has made it clear through his decisions that the Portuguese is a replaceable player.
When Cancelo's loan was made official, Guardiola said:
"He (Joao) left because he wants to play all the games. I hope he can do that in Germany for the next 4 months and then I don't know what will happen next season."
The talented defender still has time to improve his position at Bayern, but at the same time he has to think about the future, as a final move to Germany is unlikely to happen considering his £62m transfer fee. .
