Frenkie de Jong is the next midfielder who, according to reports, has refused a transfer to Manchester United. Erik ten Hag will be the new coach of the "Red Devils" next season, and the coach has already started with the picking of the main players he wants to see at Old Trafford in the summer.
De Jong is one of them and this is by no means a random choice on the part of Ten Hag. The coach has previously trained the Barcelona midfielder, when the latter was part of Ajax. The player can not be said to have excelled with his performances with the Catalans, since landing in Camp Nou in 2019. But apparently, De Jong still trusts coach Xavi's project. The midfielder confirmed this in the last interview for the media where he said:
"I like Barcelona very much. "I would most likely sign a new 6-year contract if they proposed to me."
De Jong's words have been the next blow for coach Ten Hag, who is facing great difficulties to bring a midfielder to Old Trafford. Calvin Phillips, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham have all been under the Dutchman's radar, but none of the superstars seem interested in a transfer to United. The main reason is the fact that the "Red Devils" will not play in Champions League next season.
Ten Hag is working on problems in the locker room. It is learned that the coach will ask all players seeking departure from United to leave before June. The Dutchman seeks to avoid further problems between players, and has the difficult task of rebuilding United at the level of rivals like City, Liverpool, or Chelsea.
