According to the latest reports in England, Erik ten Hag will urge Manchester United chiefs to swoop for Ajax's Brazilian striker Antony. The Dutch coach sees Antony as the ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, in case the latter leaves the "Red Devils".
The Portuguese striker has asked the club to leave this window, and if this comes to fruition, United will be left with very limited attacking options for next season. Marcus Rashford never managed to live up to expectations last season, while Antony Martial had a poor season on loan at Sevilla.
Ronaldo meanwhile scored 18 goals last season. This led to the Portuguese being included in the "Team of the Year" in the Premier League. However, CR7 wants to play in the Champions League and United cannot afford this. This is the reason why coach Ten Hag wants to take measures as soon as possible, to prevent the possible departure of Ronaldo.
Despite this, Antony's move to Old Trafford is not an easy move. Ajax want 70 million pounds for the Brazilian's card and reports in England suggest that United are not willing to pay this figure. This is also the reason why Ten Hag is being persistent with the club leaders, who are afraid of the reaction that the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo could bring.
The "Red Devils" also intend to bring to Old Trafford Frankie de Jong of Barcelona and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax. The pressure from the fans is always increasing, as the club has not managed to formalize any significant approach so far in this summer market. It remains to be seen if Cristiano Ronaldo will be added to United's list of departures.
