Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk will be out of action for at least 1 month. The cause is a muscle injury and the news was announced by coach Jurgen Klopp himself. Van Dijk was replaced at half-time during Liverpool's match with Brentford. "The Reds" were defeated 3-1 by the opponents.
On the eve of the confrontation with Wolves valid for the FA Cup, coach Klopp commented on the injury of the Dutch defender:
"It was a surprise and a big blow for us. The diagnosis was serious. We are talking about weeks, more than 1 month. It's a muscle problem, nothing else, at the time it happened Van Dijk will have sprinted more than he should have. For Virgil it is difficult but he has played a huge number of games over the last few years, and now we cannot use him on the pitch, only off it, and that is what we will do. He has never had muscle problems, but it happened now. We didn't do anything different."
The German coach also commented on Henderson's condition, giving good news for Liverpool fans:
"Yesterday he did everything he had to do in training. From today I can say that he is available to train and do everything."
Henderson suffered a blow to the head in the challenge against Brentford. Meanwhile, regarding the absence of Van Dijk, Klopp should already think about the right replacement in the center of the defense. The coach has enough options, as Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Phillips are all activated in that position. However, their adaptation to the rest of the team is a challenge that can hold surprises, especially at this rather delicate point of the season.
