The entire management board of Juventus, including the president Andrea Agnelli, have resigned. This is the news that the Italian media have published, as the main reason for the decision taken is an investigation by the Italian authorities on the transfers made by the "Old Lady".
Last year, Italian police said they had launched an operation following an investigation into player registration revenue from 2019 to 2021. Agnelli and vice-president Pavel Nedved were under investigation, among other figures. In an official statement to the media, the leaders of the club stated that the decision came after considering the current situation and the court case that is in progress. The statement also said:
"The (current) board considers it in the best interest of Juventus to recommend that the club be equipped with new management to address these issues."
Managing director Maurizio Arrivabene will continue in his role for a limited period while the club forms a new board. Former president Agnelli was one of the main architects of the European Super League idea last year, and this was another point of friction between fans and the then president of Juventus.
The club is under investigation for presenting forged documents to investors, as well as falsifying invoices for transactions that did not actually exist. Juventus has denied the accusations since they first became public, but it remains to be seen what the conclusion of the investigation will be. Meanwhile, the club's shareholders will meet on January 18 to elect the leaders of the new board.
In addition to Juventus, it is believed that the Italian Football Federation has also investigated several other Italian clubs for the same reasons.
