France beat Poland 3-1, never putting the question of qualification in question. It was Olivier Giroud who unlocked the result of the challenge in the 44th minute, officially becoming the scorer with the most goals in the history of the French national team. Giroud controlled Mbappe's pass well, beating Wojciech Szczesny with a low shot.
But after Giroud assisted, it was Mbappe's turn to find the back of the net. The attacker, who developed a sensational individual performance, first scored the first goal in the 74th minute of the challenge, with a strong and accurate shot from about 16 meters away from the goal. Then, in the extra minutes of the match, Mbappe found the goal again, with another very nice right-footed shot.
In the 9th minute of extra time, the referee awarded a penalty to Poland, and Robert Lewandowski was accurate from the penalty spot, scoring the consolation goal for his national team. Despite a good performance, France proved to be a very strong opponent for the Poles.
Meanwhile on the other hand, England also won convincingly against Senegal in the figures of 3-0. The result means that coach Southgate's men will face France in the quarter-finals of this World Cup.
The "3 Lions" were in trouble early in the match, as goalkeeper Pickford made a spectacular save from Boulaye Dia's shot, which, if it had ended up in the goal, could have changed the course of the match.
However, the English never questioned their superiority and eventually found the way to the net with Henderson in the 38th minute of the challenge. Kane doubled the score just before the end of the first half, scoring his first goal in this World Cup.
In the second half, there would be space for Arsenal's talent, Saka, who sealed the final figures 57-3 in the 0th minute. Now coach Southgate has to think about the challenge against France, the reigning champions of the World Cup.
