Matthijs de Light has confirmed that he is in talks with Juventus for a new contract, but has made it clear that he has not yet decided anything final on his future. The Dutch defender performed quite well with the "Old Lady" last season, despite the fact that Juventus did not manage to win any major trophies.
A few days ago, Italian media reported that De Light was very close to renewing with Juventus, but it seems that progress has slowed down, as the defender is considering the options he has on the table. The Dutchman also has a 2 year active contract with the Italian club. In a recent interview with NOS, he stated:
"Negotiations are ongoing and when the time comes I will decide whether to renew, or look elsewhere. I always see what is the best sports project for me. Fourth place two years in a row is not the best. "We have to take steps forward in this direction."
But De Light took care to clarify that he feels happy at Juventus, saying that he had a good time in Italy:
"Personally, this has been the best year for me in terms of time on the field and the way I played. The club told me that when Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci were injured, I was able to show what I was able to do. I had to pick up the direction and it went well. I think this is the next step. "
Giorgio Chiellini meanwhile he will leave Juventus, after a full 17 years at the "Old Lady". The biggest options are for a transfer to MLS, and more specifically Los Angeles FC. Chiellini's departure is expected to create even more room for De Light on defense, and this is one more motive to renew.
