Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate are just 2 of the French national team players who have been affected by a viral condition. The news has been announced by the French Football Federation itself, as the sick players have been isolated in their rooms and have missed training sessions. The news was first made known by the media, since the semi-final of the French against Morocco.
In that challenge, defender Dayot Upamecano and midfielder Adrien Rabiot were unavailable for coach Deschamps, precisely for the same reason. Striker Randal Kolo Muani has given more details about the situation, on the eve of the big final of the World Cup. Muani said:
"Those who are sick are staying in their rooms. Doctors are taking care of them and we have established social distancing. We are very strict about this."
Ousmane Dembele also commented on the news saying that the players are not scared by the virus, and that everything will be ready for Sunday's grand final. Meanwhile, the coach Didier Deschamps stated 2 days ago that Upamecano and Rabiot are expected to be ready for the final. However, the dilemma is still there regarding Konate and Varane. If the latter do not play against Argentina, Deschamps will go down to the field without 2 of his best defenders.
However, in his last interview, the French technician was calm about the state of his team:
"We know that there is a disease circulating in Doha recently. Temperatures have dropped somewhat, and we have had a few cases of flu symptoms. We're all being very careful that it doesn't spread."
Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman is thought to be among the others affected, as the latter was not present at the last training session.
