The center-back of Liverpool, Virgil Van Dijk, has said that he feels responsible for the poor form of "The Reds" at the start of this season. Trustees of Jurgen Klopp have won only 2 of the first 6 matches in the championship, while they were defeated with a deep score of 4-1 in the Champions League by Napoli. Despite the 2-1 win over Ajax, question marks still abound over Liverpool's form this year, and Van Dijk has accepted the criticism.
The Dutch defender commented to the media:
"If we play well I get praise, and if we don't I don't. But, I still think I need to improve and that's okay. The only way to do it is to play matches, learn from mistakes, not listen too much to outside voices, and talk to people close to you. I've said it several times, we're all human, and we all want to do our best, and that goes for me too. I know I can play better, but we can all do better."
Van Dijk added:
"I feel very hurt when we concede goals and don't keep a clean sheet, I feel my responsibility, but that's a good thing. I want us to return to good results, not only for myself but for all the people connected with the club."
The Liverpool star was also not happy with the comments of the sports analysts. According to the Dutchman, it is a pity that former Liverpool footballers fail to understand that every team can have a bad period or situation for a few matches. Especially at such a high and intense level of play. The defender added that the victory over Ajax in the Champions League proves that Liverpool can play much better if they play as a team.
