The coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, as well as that of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, have commented saying that the direct challenge between the teams in the Premier League will not be decisive in the race for the title of champion. Arsenal currently leads the overall standings with 5 points difference from second place City. However, the "citizens" have 2 more matches to play, including the direct match.
Guardiola spoke to the media on the eve of the challenge:
"The match is quite important, but not decisive because there are still many matches to be played..."
The Spanish coach also commented on his relationship with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. We remember that the pair worked together at Manchester City, where Arteta was Guardiola's assistant. The latter said:
"Nothing has changed. We see each other and talk less, but our relationship is always happy... Mikel has taken them (Arsenal) to another level. They are so competitive and aggressive."
Meanwhile, Arteta has also commented on the spectacular match that is expected to be played at the Etihad:
"If we win tomorrow, we have not won the championship. Maybe the percentage of chances will go in our favor, but 5 games in the championship is a delicate situation. We knew we would have to go to the Etihad, it will be tough but will it define the season? No. The belief is still there, I saw how the players reacted against Southampton, they protected each other at all times. We really want (the Premier League triumph) and we'll show it when we get on the pitch."
Arteta has meanwhile confirmed that Granit Xhaka is in doubt for the match against City, and Saliba has also shown no signs of improvement since the injury sustained in the challenge against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League. The match at Etihad guarantees spectacle and goals, as none of the teams can be considered safe favorites.
