Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has said that Jack Grealish will return to the team's starting line-up when his performances improve. Grealisht has started in only 19 matches for City this season, including 7 matches in the Premier League. Last season, Grealisht started in a total of 41 matches with the "citizens", including the Champions League final.
Guardiola has commented on the activation of Grealish:
"He is the same player, he has the same coach, and the way we play has not changed. It's all about his performance. That's the difference... I've said it since day one, we need him. Grealish has special qualities for our team. But it all depends on him. Hopefully he will have some good form in the last 3 months."
However, Grealish is not the only player who has found it difficult to secure a starting place in a team led by Guardiola. The Spanish technician is quite strict when it comes to the details on the performance of his players, and has made it clear to Grealish once again that the Englishman will not have an easy time getting back into the lineup. Pep added:
"I can't give you players 3 or 4 games to find their rhythm. They have to do this for 20 or 90 minutes. At a high level, the team does not wait to find the rhythm. You can't give someone 3 or 4 dates to find the right shape. What about those 10 players who are not activated? Don't they deserve to play? You have to see the training sessions and the little details. The players don't have to convince me, they have to convince themselves that they deserve to play."
