After criticism of the referees and the VAR system in the controversial defeat to Newcastle, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has once again reiterated his stance on the moment that caused a lot of debate in England. The Spaniard seems to be of the same opinion again, as he said once again that the decision to concede the goal to Newcastle was unacceptable and shameful.
The second reaction of the Arsenal technician came after some criticism of him from various sports commentators, including Gary Neville. The latter called Arteta's comments on the site dangerous for the game and unacceptable. However, the Spanish technician has repeated:
“That's my job, to stand here in front of you and give you a clean and clear definition. Protecting my players and my club in the best possible way is my duty. I will always do it and take responsibility. This is me. I have to protect my club."
Arteta also added:
"We have a duty to express how we feel based on the evidence we have. We must protect our people, our values and what we stand for. The club statement shows unity and togetherness in a clear and honest way… It's nothing special (club statement). I would do it again, and the club would do it again, until this is fixed."
The defeat against Newcastle ended Arsenal's positive run, which was unbeaten so far in the Premier League. The Londoners are already 3 points away from leaders Manchester City, who hold first place in the championship, after Tottenham's defeat to Chelsea. However, there are still plenty of games to be played and the competition in the Premier League is expected to be just as fierce this season as it was last season.
