After the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, the leaders of Chelsea did not delay to make official the new coach of the blues. As it was rumored, former Brighton coach Graham Potter will now manage the Londoners for the next 5 years. The 47-year-old expressed himself quite happy and proud of the new task.
The first match for Potter will be against Fulham on the transfer, a delicate challenge for Chelsea. The Englishman will also bring his support staff to Stamford Bridge, including assistant Billy Reid, coaches Bjorn Hamberg and Bruno, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts and director of recruitment Kyle Macaulay.
Chelsea president Todd Boehly commented on Potter's approach:
"We are thrilled to welcome Graham to Chelsea. He is an experienced manager and an innovator in the Premier League, who fits our vision for the club. Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, but he has the right skills and capacity off the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful club. Potter has had a major impact at the clubs he has worked at before and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea."
The Englishman guided Brighton to 9th place in the Premier League last season. This was the best result recorded in the history of the club. Apart from Brighton, Potter has also coached Ostersunds FK and Swansea City. Regarding his new adventure, the coach appeared quite positive. He declared:
"I am very excited to partner with the new owners of Chelsea, and to get to know and work with a fantastic group of players, to create a squad and culture that the fans will be proud of."
Potter also thanked Brighton for 3 fantastic years under his former club.
