Thomas Tuchel has blocked Timo Werner's negotiations to leave Chelsea this summer. It seems that the German coach still sees the striker as part of his plans, despite the player's performances. Werner has failed to make a big impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring just 23 goals in 89 appearances for the club.
According to the prestigious Kicker, Tuchel still believes in the German's abilities, but the latter is not happy with the spaces that have been left for him in the team. The player started as a starter in only 15 meetings during the season we left behind in the Premier League. Last month, Werner suggested he was open to the idea of leaving Chelsea, as he wanted more game time. He said:
"I can be happy anywhere... It's clear that I want to play more and I have to play more, to be in good shape for the World Cup and to have the chance to play in this competition. It doesn't change anything if the World Cup is organized in winter or summer. I think if I play half or the whole season, I should play (at the World Cup). Nothing changes in my mind."
But coach Tuchel commented differently on the striker's situation at the London Blues. Asked about Werner's possible departure, the technician said:
"I don't know, Timo didn't tell me anything about it. At the moment I think he wants to make his way to Chelsea. He still has something to prove."
RB Leipzig in Germany has expressed interest in re-buying Werner's card during this market. However, sources close to the player suggest that the striker does not like the idea of returning to his old club, and would prefer a move elsewhere.
