Although Romelu Lukaku has been rumored recently for a return to Italy at Inter, the striker seems determined to fight hard and win trophies in London with Chelsea. The striker was left out of the match against Lille, valid for the Champions League, in which the Tuchel trustees won cleanly with the score 2-0. Leaving Lukaku on the bench has once again raised strong doubts about his future.
Reports in Italy suggest that the player is ready to accept a pay cut, to return once again to Inter. Lukau himself has admitted he is not going through his best moment, referring to recent performances, but that does not mean the striker is ready to give up his adventure in England so quickly.
Coach Thomas Tuchel insisted that the decision to leave Lukaku on the bench in the match with Lille, was to remove the media pressure from the footballer, after the last appearance against Crystal Palace. In the confrontation with the latter, Lukaku touched the ball only 7 times throughout the match, a very negative record.
It is not yet guaranteed whether the player will be part of Chelsea's starting line-up in the match against Liverpool. This after Kai Havertz developed a pretty good showing against Lille, managing to find the net. But the Belgian national team star does not intend to give up easily. The striker scored in both Club World Cup games in Abu Dhabi and his poor showing against Crystal Palace clearly seemed to be just a bad day for the player.
However, many things will depend on the space that coach Tuchel will offer Lukaku in the upcoming matches. If the current situation continues, it seems difficult for the striker to accept a secondary role in the London Blues.
