Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw by Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League Group G fixture. Pep Guardiola's men were unlucky, as they were punished with a red card in the 30th minute. It was Gomez who wrongly interfered with Haraldsson, denying Copenhagen a very good scoring opportunity. The referee did not hesitate and punished the City player with a red card, who left the field without protest.
Before they were punished, the English had Rodri's goal disallowed, due to Mahrez touching the ball with his hand during the build-up of the action. The latter would lose a penalty awarded in favor of City in the 25th minute of the meeting. At this moment it seemed that this was not the lucky evening of the "citizens".
But despite this, Pep Guardiola's men did not lose motivation and were the ones who dominated the game until the end, realizing 4 shots on goal and 8 corner kicks. At the end of the challenge, Rodri expressed his disappointment with the result. The Spanish midfielder commented:
"Sometimes it's like that, you have to go through these matches too. The red card that came early made it difficult for the team, but we fought until the end. We had our chances: we scored a goal which was disallowed. We missed a penalty but like I said, it's difficult when you're 10 to 11."
Coach Guardiola also made his comments after the match. The Spanish technician told BT Sport:
"We started the match quite well when we had 11 players on the field and then we resisted for 1 hour when we were with 10. When we had the ball we were smart and didn't put too much pressure... Maybe not mathematically, but we are almost qualified for the next round and this is important."
