Bayern Munich seems to be fighting with Liverpool to secure the services of Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard is currently the main candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp in charge of Liverpool, as the German will leave at the end of the season. However, Bayern are also keen on Alonso, following the news of Thomas Tuchel's departure at the end of the season. It seems that the Bavarians already have a financial proposal ready for Alonso.
According to the English media, the Bayern giants are ready to offer the Leverkusen technician 20 million pounds a year. To put the proposal in perspective, this figure is almost 4 times greater than what Xabi currently earns at Bayer Leverkusen. If the Spaniard accepts Bayern's potential offer, he would officially become the highest-paid coach in Bundesliga history.
Although the financial aspect is not expected to be the main factor in making the decision for Alonso, Bayern's offer will definitely set Liverpool in motion. The Reds see the Spaniard as the perfect replacement for Jurgen Klopp, given Alonso's success at Bayer. Klopp earns around £15m a season at Liverpool, and in all likelihood the English club's bosses will be able to make a counter-offer, whatever Bayern's offer for Alonso is.
The Leverkusen man has turned down the chance to be part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester City in the past, and his success with Leverkusen has seen him become one of the most sought-after coaches by Europe's elite clubs.
Thomas Tuchel is paid around 10 million pounds a season at Bayern and the Bavarian team is not afraid to spend more, to lay safe foundations towards a long-term project. However, Xabi Alonso's future is still unclear, and is expected to be so at least until the end of the season.
