The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has said that the club is the "home" of Lionel Messi, thus implying that the Catalans await the Argentine's return to Spain. Messi's contract with Paris St-Germain expires at the end of this season, and many sports media have linked the player with a move to Saudi Arabia.
However, it seems that the leaders of Barcelona have not given up on the dream of returning the superstar to Camp Nou. In a recent interview for TV3, president Laporta said that the Catalans can compete with any other club that wants Messi's services. Laporta commented:
"History supports us, the feelings are very strong, we have 400 million fans all over the world. He is a Paris St-Germain player and we have to wait until the end of the season, then we can talk calmly...With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, Barça is Barça and it is home.”
President Laporta's comments came after Barcelona's victory over Espanyol with a score of 4-2, which formalized the triumph of the Catalans in La Liga for this season. In a previous statement, Laporta expressed himself even more determined to bring Messi to the Camp Nou once again. The president said in a live broadcast on Twitch that the club will do "everything possible" to sign Messi.
The Argentine is undoubtedly the most important player in the history of Barcelona. Messi managed to win a full 10 times the championship title with Barcelona, between the years 2004 and 2021. The striker has encountered difficulties in his 2 seasons in France, as he has not yet found his position and his best form with the Parisians. Recently, the fans of the French club have been mocked by cheering against him in the challenge against Ajaccio, which PSG won with the result 5-0.
