The legendary defender of Barcelona, Gerard Pique, announced the news that he will end his career as a footballer, this weekend at Camp Nou. The 35-year-old posted a video on social networks, where he addressed all the fans of the Catalan club, and not only. Pique said:
"I have always said that there would be no other club after Barcelona, and so it will be... Football has given me everything. Barça has given me everything, you (the fans) have given me everything. Now that a little boy's dreams have come true, I have to tell you that the time has come for this journey to come to an end."
Meanwhile, Pique has assured the fans that this is not a goodbye forever from Barcelona, and that at some point he will return to Camp Nou, sooner or later. Meanwhile, the footballer was separated from the Spanish national team in 2018.
The Spaniard is a product of Barcelona's academy, and until 2004 was a first-team player at the Blaugrana. The defender then signed with Manchester United, where he played a key role in the success of the "Red Devils", who won the championship, as well as the Champions League in the 2007-2008 season. Soon after, Pique decided to rejoin his old team and what followed was a remarkable success story.
The defender has played more than 600 matches with Barcelona and won a total of 30 trophies, including 8 La Liga titles, 3 Champions Leagues and 7 Copa del Rey. However, the situation is quite different this season in the Catalan camp. The team has been eliminated from the Champions League since the group stage, while in the championship it holds the second place, but the difference from the leading Real is only 1 point.
