Tottenham Hotspur have formalized the approach of Ange Postecoglou as the team's new coach. The Australian will be in charge of the Londoners' bench for the next 4 years, having left Celtic after back-to-back Championship successes. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy commented on Postecoglou's approach in a statement to the media:
"We are very happy to have Ange among us. Ange brings a positive mindset and a fast attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of achievement and player development, and understands the importance of the club's academy…”
Postecoglou will be the first Australian manager to manage a team in the Premier League. While managing Celtic, the technician won 5 out of 6 possible trophies in 2 seasons. The executive director of the Scottish club, Michael Nicholson, also expressed his gratitude for the work of the coach during these two years. Nicholson said:
"It has been a pleasure to work with Ange, a very good coach and a good person. He has served the club with energy, determination, and achieved a phenomenal level of success. Of course, we wanted Ange to stay at Celtic, and although the disappointment is real at his departure, he has decided he is looking for a new challenge, a decision we respect."
Since 2019, Tottenham have secured only 1 Champions League qualification, and the management board is looking for a rebuilding of the team. This is the main reason why the board decided to appoint Ange Postecoglou to the role of coach. The latter took charge of Celtic in 2021, when the latter were 25 points behind Rangers in the championship.
The situation is similar at Tottenham, but the Australian technician will face a much more difficult challenge, as the competition in the Premier League is much stronger.
