The Dutch of Ajax have expressed their interest in Jordan Henderson's card. The Englishman moved to Al Ettifaq Arabs in the summer transfer window but has reportedly decided to leave after just a few months in Saudi Arabia. However, it looks like Ajax will face competition from other clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga, who are also looking to sign the midfielder.
Sources close to the player indicate that the ideal scenario for Henderson is a return to the Premier League, as 2 yet unknown English teams have expressed interest. Meanwhile, as far as the interest of Ajax is concerned, the main problem for the realization of the transfer remains Henderson's salary. The Dutch club cannot offer the player the same financial offer as Al Ettifaq. However, the representatives of the club believe that the 33-year-old can compromise in this part.
Ajax need reinforcements and experience in the midfield, and the Englishman seems the perfect option for the club, which is in a period of renewal. Ajax started the season in a rather weak form, but eventually the Dutch giants returned to positive results. Ajax now holds the fifth place in the overall standings of the Eredivisie.
News of Henderson's desire to leave is another blow for Al Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard. The English football legend called for reinforcements in the January transfer window, as his team sits 8th in the Saudi Pro League, a full 28 points adrift of leaders Al Hilal. Al Ettifaq has not registered any victory in the last 8 meetings. In addition, Steven Gerrard's assistant Ian Foster also left this month. The latter will start a new career as coach of Plymouth Argyle.
It remains to be seen if Henderson will leave Al Ettifaq in January, or if the midfielder will have to wait until the end of the season.
