Chelsea chiefs appear to be interested in Brighton's Irish talent Evan Ferguson. The English media have revealed that Chelsea have long been admirers of the 19-year-old, and this is due to the fact that he fits the club's vision for the future. However, the striker's move to Stamford Bridge will not be easy at all.
Ferguson has just signed a new contract with Brighton, valid until 2029. This means that the costs of a potential transfer will be very high for Chelsea. Brighton also don't want to lose their promising talent so quickly, it seems they could benefit even more financially if the player performs well in the future. We remember that Chelsea paid Brighton a full 115 million pounds last summer, for the card of Moises Caicedo.
Another reason why Ferguson would be the perfect player at this moment for Chelsea is the financial aspect. The London Blues have limited options to operate in the January market due to past spending. This means that Chelsea cannot sign strikers like Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney, as they would have to offer them a very high salary, currently out of reach. Ferguson on the other hand could join the Blues accepting a lower salary.
However, Brighton leaders are skeptical of losing another talent. Last summer, Ferguson received attention from Manchester United and Tottenham. The latter wanted to replace Harry Kane, who left for Bayern Munich. However, nothing was concreted and at the moment it seems that only Chelsea remains seriously interested in the Irishman's card.
