The coach of Manchester United has spoken to the media, after another embarrassing defeat at Old Trafford, this time with the result 0-3 against Bournemouth. Ten Hag admitted that he was irritated and disappointed with the result, as well as admitting the fact that "the team was not at the right level to be consistent". The Dutch technician said after the challenge:
"As a team, we are not good enough to be consistent. I am irritated, and definitely disappointed. I expected something else. The way we started the game was not good, it was very poor...As a group, we need to strengthen, we need to improve. We have to get stronger... In this championship, if you don't play at the highest level you get killed."
United captain Bruno Fernandes also described the performance against Bournemouth as unacceptable. Fernandes also said fans' boos at the end of the match were normal considering the performance.
Manchester United have lost a total of 11 games in all competitions this season. The defeat to Bournemouth was the sixth defeat in 16 games played so far in the Premier League. But the upcoming matches look even more difficult for the Red Devils, and fans have reason to be worried.
United will challenge Bayern Munich in the Champions League this weekend, and only a win is needed for the Englishmen to qualify. Ten Hag's faithful then face tough away games against Liverpool and West Ham in the Championship, as well as a tough challenge against Aston Villa at home.
Ten Hag's position as coach is also now in jeopardy, as rumors of his sacking have grown louder. In the event that United continues to record negative results like the one against Bournemouth, the Dutchman can be fired before the end of the season.
