Despite constant links to a transfer to Manchester United, it seems that Frenkie de Jong still does not want to leave Barcelona. A few days ago, news were published in the Spanish media that the Dutchman is looking for a way to leave Camp Nou, but these reports have been denied by sources close to the midfielder.
It seems that De Jong has no intention of leaving Barcelona, as the player has described the Blaugrana as his dream club several times. However, it may be Barcelona itself that, starting from the difficult financial situation, may be forced to sell the services of the Dutchman.
Currently, the midfielder is being paid by the club for back wages from the pandemic period. According to the Spanish media, De Jong is collecting a full 720 pounds per week, while Barcelona has other debts towards the footballer. Moreover, some time ago, the club's own leaders threatened the player with legal persecution, regarding his contract.
De Jong's deal with Barcelona was concluded under president Josip Maria Bartomeu, who is already convicted of financial fraud. The board leaders at Barcelona argue that De Jong's contract is not legal.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the player himself has rejected a new agreement from the club, according to which the midfielder would be part of the team until 2029. This was the reason why the Spanish media hinted that De Jong wants to leave the Blaugrana, but this is not It's true. It is believed that the main reason for the rejection of the new contract is the financial package, which was expected to be much lower than the current one that De Jong enjoys.
It remains to be seen whether the talented Dutchman will sign a new contract with Barcelona in the future, or decide to leave at the end of the season.
