Arsenal managed to win 2-0 against Crystal Palace, in the opening match of the new Premier League season. The coach of the "gunners", Mikel Arteta, said that his team appeared "hungry" on the playing field and that the mentality of the players is the right one.
It took Crystal Palace almost the entire first half to adjust to the pace of the visitors, who dominated most of the first 45 minutes. Motivated by the local fans, the "eagles" tried little by little to get into their game, but it was at this moment that Arsenal's first goal came. It was Gabriel Martinelli, who in the 20th minute of the challenge gave his team the advantage. Martinelli thus became the first Brazilian player to score the first goal in a Premier League season.
The first half of the match ended 1-0 while Palace significantly improved the game in the second 45 minutes. The hosts went in search of an equaliser, but unfortunately Guéhi sent the ball into his goal in the 85th minute, thus giving the opponents a double advantage. With only 5 minutes remaining, Arsenal had already secured a very important 3-pointer.
At the end of the meeting, Mikel Arteta said:
"I have had this feeling for several weeks, since the players started the pre-season games. They are ready, they look hungry, with a winning mentality. The team came here to play their way, we were dominant, we were threatening and very sharp from the start. Then when we felt the pressure, we handled it well."
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to maintain their positive start in the Premier League in the coming weeks.
