According to the latest reports L'Equipe in France, Manchester United and Chelsea are competing for the services of World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard. The 26-year-old first arrived in Germany in 2016, as he joined Stuttgart from French side Lille. After an impressive performance at the World Cup, he managed to join the giants Bayern Munich, 3 years later. Pavard triumphed not only in the Bundesliga, but also in the Champions League. However, it seems that the defender is looking for a new adventure.
The player still has 2 years left on his contract with Bayern, but he is looking to play more in his natural role as a centre-back. In most of the matches last season, the Frenchman was activated in the role of a "full-back".
According to Bild's Christian Falk, it is currently United who have the upper hand in the race for Pavard's card. This is because Chelsea is not yet ready to make an official offer, as it is expected to formalize the approaches of Jules Koundé and Presnel Kimpembe very soon. Both of the latter are active in defense, and Pavard's approach in this situation poses a potential risk to disrupt the balance in Tuchel's team.
However, apart from England, interest in the Frenchman's card also comes from the other side of the European continent. Juventus in Italy and Spanish side Atletico Madrid are said to be monitoring the situation, with both teams in need of defensive reinforcements.
Meanwhile, in parallel, Atletico looks ever closer to the sensational transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Coach Diego Simeone's son has "liked" a tweet stating that CR7 will return to Madrid, thus indicating that the latest reports may be true.
