Newcastle United have had their first bid of over £25m for Yoane Wissa rejected by Brentford. The Tyneside club are preparing to make a second bid, which is expected to be in excess of £30m.
Yoane Wissa, who had a brilliant season at Brentford with 19 Premier League goals, has formed a strong partnership with Bryan Mbeumo, who has now moved to Manchester United. Newcastle are looking for a striker who can play alongside Alexander Isak, following the departure of Callum Wilson.
Sources have confirmed that Yoane Wissa has told Brentford he wants to leave, and Newcastle are ready to increase their offer. Although Brentford value Wissa at around £50m, the belief is that he could leave for £40m.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are not the only club looking to sign the Congolese striker, with Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest also expressing interest. Yoane Wissa has a strong relationship with Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, but is also open to a move to Newcastle.
As Newcastle prepare for a new deal, Alexander Isak's situation remains uncertain. Isak is demanding a £300,000-a-week contract extension, but the club are unable to meet that figure. Newcastle are open to offering him around £200,000-a-week, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.
