Morocco has produced another surprise in this world, as it managed to defeat Belgium with the result 2-0 in group F. The Moroccans scored 2 goals in the last minutes of the challenge, through Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal.
The goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had the main responsibility in conceding the first goal, as he did not make any effort to stop Sabri's standard shot, in the 73rd minute of the match. In an effort to find the equalizer, Belgium left a lot of space in the back, and were punished for the second time, this time by Aboukhlal in the 92nd minute. It all came as a result of Ziyech's insistence, who after grabbing the ball perfectly assisted his teammate.
Belgium paid the price for a performance not up to the level expected of them. Roberto Martinez's men dominated most of the game, but failed to create concrete scoring chances. The 2-0 result means Morocco now top Group F with 4 points, while Belgium hold second place with 3 points.
At the beginning of the meeting, it seemed that Morocco would not be able to survive the pressure of Belgium, but the Moroccans used the counterattack well enough to threaten Courtois' goal. Coach Martinez's men showed no signs of improvement in the second half either, as long range shots from Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens were unsuccessful. The technician commented on his team's performance at the end of the meeting:
"This (loss) has to do with mentality, I don't think it's a lack of quality. We played with the ball a lot better than against Canada, and we put ourselves in really good positions, but then the next pass was missing...We couldn't find the last man because I think we were playing scared of losing…”
