Viktor Gyökeres has rejected Sporting Lisbon's offer to hold new contract talks as his transfer saga takes a bitter turn. The Swedish striker is being monitored by Manchester United and Arsenal, but the Portuguese club are unwilling to sell him for the low price being asked by English clubs.
This stance has angered Gyökeres, who believes Sporting have broken their promise to let him leave. He has even threatened to go on strike to force a sale. The club has attempted to defuse the situation by inviting the striker for a reconciliation talk, but he and his representatives have immediately rejected it.
Viktor Gyökeres is currently on holiday in Saint-Tropez and is not expected to return to training anytime soon, although he briefly spoke about the situation last week. The Sporting president has stated that he will not allow pressure to sell the striker for 60 million euros plus 10 million in add-ons, as this amount was never guaranteed. He criticized the agent for making the situation worse and stressed that no official offers have been received during the season. But that does not seem to be the case, as several of the top clubs in the Premier League are now ready to attack for the Sporting star.
Prior to Arsenal's interest, attempts to bring Gyökeres to Real Madrid had previously failed, with Juventus' offer for a huge contract rejected. Arsenal have meanwhile suspended talks to devote more time and attention to Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, with whom they are said to have agreed personal terms.
With the issue of Viktor Gyökeres still unresolved, Sporting are looking to keep the door open for a departure should the conditions end up as they wish, but for now everything remains in limbo and tension is mounting as the summer transfer window approaches.
