Real Madrid and Belgian national team goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has leveled strong accusations against the highest governing body of football, UEFA. The footballer has accused the institutions that they are only interested in financial benefits, and not in the players, who according to Courtois, are treated like robots.
The goalkeeper was activated in both matches that Belgium played in Nations League, respectively opposite France and Italy. This seems to have provoked the reaction of the player, who said to the media:
"We have to be honest with each other, all this is done for money. We play because for UEFA it translates into extra benefit, as it is an extra match on television. For us it is a good thing as we face Italy, and the same can be said for them, but look at how many substitutions the teams were forced to make. "If we played the final, there would be other players on the field."
Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku were two of the Belgian strikers who were absent in the match against Italy. The reason was muscle injuries, from the previous match with France. For Courtois this is another alarm bell:
"It shows that we play a lot of matches. Next year we have the World Cup in November. Most likely we will have to play until the end of June again. We will suffer injuries and no one will know about the players. After a long and tiring season, we will have to play 4 games again in the Nations League. "Then we have 2 weeks off, which is not enough for the players to play again, for 12 months at high levels."
Meanwhile, the future is expected to reserve changes by UEFA, in the scheme of organizing competitions such as world or European. However, it is not known whether these changes will really be in favor of the players.
