Dele Alli is hoping to revive his career in Italy with Serie A club Como after announcing his departure from Everton. The former England international will join Cesc Fàbregas' squad on December 26 to begin training. If he can prove he is fit, Alli will sign a permanent contract until mid-January.
Como sporting director Carlalberto Ludi told Italian radio TMW: “We need a few weeks, including time to get to know each other better, then we will make the best decision. Percentage? It's too early to tell. We will go through a period of getting to know each other, but Fàbregas likes him a lot." It is understood that Alli is excited to work with Fàbregas and believes that Italy will provide the right environment for him to restart his career.
Alli is finally fit, and Serie A, which requires more technique and less physical strength, may suit him better than the Premier League at this stage of his career. He released a statement confirming his departure from Everton, where "things didn't go as we all hoped," and referred to his "new path" which has been "made public this week."
The 28-year-old has been a free agent since his Everton contract expired in July but has continued training with the club as part of his recovery from a long-term thigh injury. Everton had expressed an interest in re-signing him, provided he returned to first-team training, after a difficult few years that included six weeks in rehab last year to treat childhood trauma and an addiction to sleeping pills. He was in the stands for Como's win over Roma last Sunday, fueling speculation over his future.
