The new coach of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, wants to bring to Old Trafford, one of the most wanted defenders in Europe at the moment. With Amorim expected to take over at United in November, the Portuguese coach seems keen to take one of his best players with him to Sporting Lisbon. It is about Ousmane Diomande.
According to sources close to the club, Amorim wants to adapt to United, the same system with 3 defenders that he applied to Sporting during the last seasons. The formation has proved quite successful in Portugal, and the technician believes that it can also succeed in the Premier League. Especially considering the fact that the "Red Devils" have the right quality in the center of the defense, after Leny Yoro returns from injury.
At the moment, in case Amorim decides to play with 3 players in defense, his options are Yoro, De Light and Martinez. With Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof long linked with a possible move away from Old Trafford, Amorim is looking to bring in Diomande to have more options at the back.
But how easy will it be for United to convince Sporting to part with the defender? The player has a release clause in his contract worth 70 million pounds. The figure is affordable by the club, but the player has also been in the monitoring of other teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. This could spark a financial war between teams interested in Diomande's card.
The defender joined Sporting in 2022 for just £6.1m from Danish side Midtjylland. Amorim meanwhile has signed a contract with Manchester United until 2027, with the option to renew for 1 additional year.
