The English media have reported that Xavi Hernandez is the latest name to emerge as one of the possible replacements for Erik ten Hag, at the head of the Manchester United bench. The Dutch technician is still in danger of being fired, considering the poor start of the "Red Devils" in the Premier League, as well as the failures in Europe.
Regarding Xavi, the prestigious Daily Mail has revealed that last month, the former coach of Barcelona communicated at least 2 times with representatives of Manchester United. Meanwhile, last week, a delegation of 4 people led by United's executive director, Omar Berrada, flew to Barcelona.
Xavi has made it clear that he no longer wants to be a coach in Spain, thus paving the way for an adventure elsewhere, why not in the Premier League. For now, United's board continue to back Ten Hag, and a move in the January transfer window is unlikely to happen. However, at the end of the season United must show real progress under the Dutchman, otherwise Ten Hag will have to leave.
During the summer transfer window, Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate were also on the list of potential replacements for Erik ten Hag, but Tuchel has just taken charge of the England national team. Gareth Southgate, on the other hand, announced that he will not return to the role of coach this year. This has left United's management with fewer and fewer options in the case of Ten Hag's sacking.
Apart from Xavi, other names on the list are former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic, as well as Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim. However, Amorim has been linked mostly to the position of coach at Manchester City, and the Portuguese is seen by the club's leaders as the long-term successor to Pep Guardiola at the "citizens".
