Manchester United are monitoring Brentford striker Ivan Toney. However, the Red Devils will not be involved in a financial battle for his services in the summer. United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to bring a world-class striker to Old Trafford next season, and Toney is one of the most suitable names for the Dutchman.
Toney himself has made it clear that he wants to leave Brentford at the end of the season, to join an elite club. Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all monitoring the situation, while Brentford are demanding around £100m for the striker. This figure is considered quite high by the new managers of Manchester United. The English media have reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to spend up to 70 million pounds for the striker, and does not want to enter a competition for his services. This situation has made Chelsea and Arsenal currently lead the race in pursuit of Toney.
The Englishman has scored a total of 70 goals in 126 appearances for Brentford in all competitions. However, the striker has never played in the Champions League, and has only been activated once with the English national team. This is another reason that has made United managers quite skeptical about spending over £1 million on Toney's card.
Ratcliffe and the other managers are also exploring the possibility of Mason Greenwood's return to the team. The Englishman is currently on loan at Getafe in Spain, after off-field scandals forced him to leave United. Now the English club must decide whether to finally sell Greenwood's card, or to return the player to the team, based on the need for reinforcements in the offensive department. The decision is expected to be made later, on the eve of the new season.
