Manchester United want the services of Flamengo talent Gabriel Barbosa, and the Red Devils are willing to offer Antony's card in exchange. The news has been published by local English media, and it seems that the club leaders are seriously considering this scenario for the January market.
The Red Devils are struggling to score goals this season, as Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial have only scored 1 goal each. Meanwhile, Holjlund has yet to score in the Premier League. Antony is also yet to score, and has only featured 11 times this season, due to allegations of domestic violence which have put his Old Trafford career in serious trouble. The striker has not scored for his team since April, when he scored the winning goal against Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Barbosa has scored 18 goals for Flamengo this season, in all competitions. The forward is considered one of the best players in the Brazilian league and his contract expires next year. This means that United can get his card for around 20 million euros. In exchange, Flamengo are also thought to want to take Antony on loan for at least the remaining half of the season after the January transfer window. With Antony having an active contract until 2027 with United, a final exit is unlikely to happen.
Meanwhile, United has also thought about some other names for the attack. Napoli's Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen are both on the Red Devils' radar, but signing the strikers would cost United far more than Barbosa's. West Ham tried to sign the Brazilian last January, but the deal could not be completed in time. It remains to be seen whether United will succeed in bringing Barbosa to Old Trafford.
